  1. You did a great job. Personally I think you destroyed him. I thank you for all of your work. You definitely got under his skin with your arguments and questions. He lost it. He was extremely disrespectful. It should have been moderated. The moderator showed his bias. White constantly and condescendingly (with faux authority) lectured you to stop doing certain things or making arguments. I should be required to answer your questions. Instead of answering them, he filibustered you.

Your first yes or no questions, that he did not answer yes or no, exposed him. He did not answer your arguments. You kept him on the defense.

As far as who is mean and who isn’t, a major point they make on their side. You were far more composed than him. You showed more respect than him. Imagine his doing this with a Moslem sheik. He wouldn’t do it. You are a believer and when you bring up theological/biblical arguments, he gets angry and disrespectful. You have legit credentials, actually could be argued greater academic ones than he.

Ouch on “the Holy Spirit speaks only through His own Words.” Crickets.

    I appreciate it, brother.

    1. Thank you, sir. I appreciated the encouragement. It was my first moderated debate. There are definitely things I need to work on. Still, overall I was pleased with how things turned out. Blessings and may the Lord continue to bless your work.

    2. Rom 14:4 Who are you to judge the servant of another? To his own master he stands or falls; and he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.

Jas 4:11-12 Do not slander one another, brothers. He who slanders a brother or judges his brother, slanders the law and judges the law; but if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge of it.  12  There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the One who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you who judge your neighbor?

  2. Brother, thanks for standing your ground and standing for the Word. I also appreciate reading Brother Brandenburg’s assessment of the debate. I respect his opinion, and am glad to find what he thought about similar to how I see it. I listened to part of the debate driving on the way to a preaching appointment Saturday. I could have listened to all of it, but got the starting time crossed up. I was able to listen from the beginning tonight on the way home, which put what I heard live last evening in the question and answer session in a much better context. Since I could only listen and not see, I of course missed facial expressions, body language, etc.

Doubtless James White is a skilled debater, from the standpoint of experience and knowing how to use debate tactics. But the truth was not on his side. If you feel you made mistakes, learn from them, work on the presentation of those things, and keep presenting the truth about God’s word. I love history, but history is an inexact science and not infallible, including manuscript history. Text criticism as practiced by the modern academy is even more grossly inexact. The Bible itself is our only infallible truth.

    God bless.

    1. I don’t know if there is a sustained multi-sided discussion going on. Certainly you can find vestiges of such a discussion on Facebook and discussion boards but I don’t know of any discussion where capable minds from multiple sides of the argument have come together to have a discussion. I thought the Textual Confidence Collective had an opportunity to do this but in the end it was just 7 hours of one side presenting a straw man of their opposition and then going on to say what they wanted to say.
